“I often put pictures of the children in the center of the (negotiating) table to serve as a reminder of what is really at stake. We want their lives to stay as normal as possible. Although spouses may need to get divorced from each other, innocent children do not deserve to get divorced from parents”

 -- Gerald M. Gallant

Child Custody and Visitation

We encourage parents to keep the children out of the middle of negotiations. While seeking solutions that keep both parents engaged in their children’s lives, we ensure that our clients are not made to sacrifice their own rights.

The negotiated arrangements may include shared physical custody with the child splitting time at each house, joint legal custody with the child living primarily with one custodial parent, or sometimes sole custody.

Child Support

The amount of child support is determined by state guidelines. The Law Offices of Gerald M. Gallant works to ensure that the state has accurate information about both parents’ income and expenses, and that the level of support does not create a financial hardship for our client.

Modifications and Enforcement Attorney

The court can modify child support, custody or visitation when incomes or job schedules change, and when one parent remarries. We represent either party in cases when one parent wishes to relocate out of state with the children. The relocating party must demonstrate to the court a legitimate reason for moving, and then the parent left behind has the burden of proving it would be a detriment to the child. If granted, issues of visitation, child support, and other matters pertinent to the children must be addressed.

The Law Offices of Gerald M. Gallant also represents clients in stepparent adoptions and paternity actions (mothers seeking custody or child support or fathers seeking custody, child support, or visitation).

Our firm seeks to resolve custody and support issues compassionately and calmly for the best interests of all involved. Contact child custody lawyer Gerald M. Gallant for a free initial consultation.
